Samoa (Upolu) Wind Resource Assessment Report

GHD was commissioned by UNDP to undertake a wind resources assessment for Upulo, Samoa. Based on the Afulilo on-site data and the NCAR reference data, the long-term average wind speed (LTAWS) for the 30 m level at the Afulilo site was estimated as 4.01 m/s.  The Government of Samoa, the power utility Electric Power Corporation (EPC), the Secretariat of thePacific Islands Applied Geoscience Commission (SOPAC) and the United Nations DevelopmentProgram (UNDP) are undertaking a wind resource assessment project for Upolu Island, Samoa. The project has installed, and operated two wind monitoring stations on Upolu: one in Aleipata on thesoutheast coast and one on higher ground at the Afulilo dam.

Afulilo site: 17 November 2006 to 20 November 2008 Aleipata site: 15 June 2007 to 20 November 2008.
