Stat of the week: Proportion of seats held by women in national parliament, Federated States of Micronesia
Our stat of the week spotlights progress and participation for International Women’s Day.
In the Federated States of Micronesia, the proportion of women in the national parliament (SDG 5.5.1a) has nearly tripled over three years, increasing from 7% in 2023 to 21% in 2025.
That is a strong sign of progress—it also shows how far we still are from parity (50%) in political decision-making. Tracking this indicator matters because women’s participation in parliaments is a key measure of equal access to leadership and influence in public life.
Across the Pacific, women’s representation remains among the lowest globally—less than 8% of parliamentary seats are held by women in the Pacific, though many countries are making notable gains.
