In 2023, 44% of all employed people in Vanuatu worked in agriculture, according to World Bank World Development Indicators (ILO modelled estimates). 

Nearly 1 in 2 workers rely on farming, fishing, or related activities for their livelihood—highlighting the essential role that agriculture continues to play in the country’s economy, food systems, and rural communities.

As climate change, market pressures, and demographic shifts reshape the sector, supporting resilient and sustainable agriculture remains central to Vanuatu’s development.
