Our stat of the week looks at food security in Tonga. 

In 2021, 9 in 10 households in Ha'apai and Ongo Niua, Tonga, were engaged in agriculture farming, highlighting the crucial role of local food production in rural island communities. 

By comparison, only 52% of urban households in Tongatapu were involved in farming activities—underscoring the differences between urban and rural ways of living. Local agriculture is vital for food security, livelihoods, and climate resilience in the Pacific.
